Years ago, banks of Ye river in central China were barren. Today, over 12,000 trees stand tall irrigated by a small canal. All thanks two ordinary men, who have taken upon them to do something extraordinary.
Two friends, one blind and one without arms are the most dedicated gardeners you’ve ever heard about. Since the past 12 years, the duo has planted and watered cedar trees near their own Village located in Hebei province.
Jia Haixia and Jia Wenqi , met years ago when both of them were unable to find jobs because of their respective disabilities. But they both knew that they want to preserve their environment. The duo rented a barren land for free, and started planting trees.
They begin their day at 7 am, carrying only a hammer and an iron rod. Despite not having the money to buy saplings, they make do with the cuttings from grown trees which they replant. And that’s really not easy, keeping in mind the men’s disabilities.
Haixia climbs the trees to cut off the boughs that are then grown in the holes they dig in the ground. Wenqi diligently waters them. ’I’m his hands,’ says Haixia. ’And he’s my eyes. Together, we make a good team.’
Well, this story of two men is inspiring. We don’t know whether to go aww over their friendship, or salute them for thinking about the environment. Guess, it’s both for us at indiatimes.
Way to go!
